To celebrate our 6th year in business we commissioned Steven Lay of Pinched post, award winning graphic designer from Royal Leamington Spa, England to create a set of three limited edition screen prints.
Steve writes “The inspiration for the Vorso screen prints comes from the tops themselves. Every time a top is spun it creates it’s own unique path. The journey it takes has infinite variables, the angle, the speed, the dexterity of the spinning hand and the surface it spins on all play a part. It was these unpredictable and beautiful paths that we wanted to capture.
Spins were captured by spinning the top onto the Vorso glass lens covered with the thinnest coating of black ink trapped beneath a layer of thin film. The weight of the top acts like a pencil creating a monoprint onto the film which is revealed as it is carefully lifted off. The path tracings are then scanned to create an image that is digitally mapped to reveal the clean path of the top. This new digital path formed the core part of our poster design. Posters were screen printed in a limited edition of 30 per design in opaque white onto a heavyweight black GF Smith Colourplan paper.”
